How To Price Your Pottery

Описание к видео How To Price Your Pottery

Knowing what to charge, especially when starting out, is really difficult. I made a spreadsheet that helps you figure out the minimum based on material cost, and how many you can produce a month: https://www.oldforgecreations.co.uk/b...

Simply put, you need to charge enough to pay your salary and material cost, divided over the amount you can make in a month.

For a mug that might work out as £30 if you base it on the time it takes and only £15 if you base it on how many you can fire a month, whereas a large fruit bowl might be £40 based on time but £100 based on firings. This is because the mugs are small and slow and the bowls are large and quick.

This way of calculating price allows you to compare totally different pieces, and come up with a sensible price. Or at the very least, it will allow you to know where your time is best spent. If you have a time consuming or massive piece that you can't sell for a lot of money, your time is probably better spent elsewhere.

There were definitely a few more on the topic, I'll edit them in when I find them.

As with all my videos, I'm not at my most coherent when throwing, so it's better to read the blog than just go on what I said in the video, but hopefully it all made sense.
