Sénémali & Rakadiou, pop music from Senegal (West Africa)
(Introduction)
Sénémali is created by Prosper Kassé and Boubacar Sidibé who met in 1980 in Dakar (at Place de l'Obélisque, quartier Fass); few months later Mola Sylla and Modou Thiam joined. As an acoustic group they played at Hotel Teranga, Mamy Flor Restaurant, in clubs like Kilimanjaro, Keur Samba, New Experience, University Cheikh Anta Diop, Theatre Daniel Sorano, Cultural Centers and festivals in Senegal.
Between 1980-1986 other musicians joined the band; some left after some time: singer Boubacar Sidibé (went back to Mali), saxophone player Khadim Diogomaye, drummer Damas, Ola (drummer), bassplayer Charly, guitarist Blondin Thiam, bassplayer Vieux Traoré, drummer Falou Gallas Niang, guitarist-keyboardplayer Ibou Cissé, trumpet player Harry...but others came and stayed: Keyboard player Camille Ndiaye, guitarist Bara Lo, percussionist Doudou Dione, drummer Babacar Niang.
Let's not forget our guest dancers: Sokhna Niang, the young Mbaye Faye, Les Etoiles Bleues, Arame Sène et Khady, Ami Ndiaye, Audrée, Marian Dors, Fumilayo Weber 'Fatou Wade'.
Our young assistants: Vieux Sylla, 'OBO' Moustapha Ndoye (cinéaste), Doudou (menuisier à Fass), DoudSarr Ndoye (artiste peintre).

In 1986 with the collaboration of Pape Dioum and Columbus Rock Division (booking agency in Amsterdam) Sénémali went to Holland, Belgium, Italy and Finland for some concerts and Festivals; the band released the first album "Africa 1" produced by Joseph Nganga and Waldy Samson for Dureco Records (Holland).
In 1988 the band came back to Senegal to perform and promote the album "Africa 1".
