“It’s Over: China Sells All U.S. Debt — The Untold Truth”

China has not sold all U.S. government debt, but it has been gradually reducing how much it holds over the past several years. Recent U.S. Treasury data show China’s holdings dropped to around $682.6 billion in November, the lowest level since 2008–2009.
This decline reflects a long‑term strategy to diversify foreign exchange reserves into other assets like gold and non‑U.S. securities, not an immediate dump of all Treasuries.
Despite this drop, China remains one of the largest foreign holders of U.S. debt, far from zero, and its reductions have been gradual rather than sudden.
China’s shrinking share is partly because Japan, the UK and other holders have increased or maintained their U.S. Treasury holdings.
Foreign ownership of U.S. Treasuries overall recently hit record highs, even though individual countries adjust their positions.
