Dismals Canyon - A National Natural Landmark In Alabama

Описание к видео Dismals Canyon - A National Natural Landmark In Alabama

Dismals Canyon is located in the Northwest corner of Alabama and although it is privately owned, it has been a National Natural Landmark since 1975. But this park has been around way before 1975; at least 10,000 years.

The park is an 85 acre, privately owned nature conservatory along Dismal Branch (creek). It features camping of both primitive and cabins & swimming area. The main attraction is the mile and a half hike through the canyon that was formed long long ago by Dismal Creek. This hike features waterfalls, creek crossings, rock formations and whats referred to as "dismalites."
Dismalites are basically glow worms. They are a specific fly larva that only grow in a handful of places in the world. The cool thing about them is they glow in the dark! These can be seen during certain times of the year and of course, at night.

The natural beauty of this area really kicks on as you descend to the canyon floor. It reminds me of scenes from Jurassic Park.

So far, this is in my personal top three natural attractions that I've been to and I highly suggest you go see it for yourself!
