Dena Stamos is from Modesto, Calfifornia, where she was interviewed for the documentary, "Kefi: The Story of FDF, the Greek Orthodox Folk Dance Festival." When Dena was asked by some student dancers to be their director in 1983, she reluctantly agreed, saying she had no experience (although she had loved to dance from a young age). That year, her group took the coveted Sweepstakes Award, and Dena would go on to be involved with FDF for decades. Known for the beautiful costumes she made by hand, as well as her costume research and authentic costume collection, Dena also worked with other parents and dancers, sewing and embroidering. Dena retired from the FDF counsel, but said, "Once you've been involved with that program, you just can't break from it." She was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts by the Stanislaus Arts Council as a result of her local, national, and international involvement with Greek folk dancing. Dena passed away in 2016. May her memory be eternal!
