Canada’s auditor general Karen Hogan speaks with reporters on Parliament Hill following the release of her performance audit report on the ArriveCAN app. The smartphone app was launched by the federal government during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to manage international travel.

The audit concludes that there was a failure to follow basic management practices in the contracting, development and implementation of the application. Although the report estimates ArriveCAN's price tag to be approximately $59.5 million, the Canada Border Services Agency's poor record keeping made it impossible for a precise cost to be determined. The federal government originally forecasted $80,000 to create the initial version of the app. (February 12, 2024)
