Free VPN for PC can help you stay anonymous online, allow you to access geographically restricted content, protect you from malicious attacks. However, many free VPNs can get you into trouble by selling your data or spamming you with ads.
🟡 Atlas VPN - FREE VERSION 🟡
-----------------------------------------------------------
✔️ Security
AtlasVPN jurisdiction lies within the USA, but they have an audited no-logs policy and the ChaCha20 encryption. Plus the free version has a kill switch.
✔️ Features
With the free plan, you get access to servers in 3 locations and 2 simultaneous device connections - something not many free VPNs can brag about.
✔️ Performance
The speeds aren’t too bad, since they’ve got the WireGuard tunneling protocol and don't limit speeds. I managed to do some torrenting, but keep in mind the 10GB monthly data cap.
✔️ Streaming
Since streaming services are cracking down on every single VPN, free or not, it’s no surprise that a free VPN for PC isn’t exactly up for the task.
⭐ Atlas VPN PREMIUM ⭐
-----------------------------------------------------------
✔️ Features
The server fleet expands to 750+ options in 38 countries. I also enjoyed having access to the Tracker Blocker, which doubled down as an ad block. I tested SafeSwap as well, it’s nice to have IP changes without having to disconnect.
✔️ Performance
I did a few speed tests and overall, Atlas VPN reduced my internet speed by just around 20%.
✔️ Streaming & torrenting
It’s not the best streaming VPN out there, but I got through to a few Netflix libraries and BBC iPlayer. No Dazn though, bummer. While torrenting, I had some disconnections, but no major problems.
🟡 ProtonVPN - FREE VERSION 🟡
-----------------------------------------------------------
✔️ Security
Proton’s jurisdiction lies in privacy-friendly Switzerland, same encryption as AtlasVPN, with the Wireguard protocol available.
✔️ Performance & features
Proton has servers in three locations and similar speed performance to Atlas VPN. But, are there downsides to this free VPN for Windows? Yup, I got only one simultaneous connection, plus, torrenting is not really an option with this one. But, there is no data cap.
⭐ ProtonVPN PREMIUM ⭐
------------------------------------------------------------
✔️ Features
You get way more servers - over 1,700 in more than 60 countries. Their Windows version has the most features out of every OS they cover, so that’s also a good sign for us PC folks. I found features like Secure Core, which functions as a double VPN.
✔️ Performance
It’s quite a speedy VPN, I noticed only around 15% speed reduction on average.
✔️ Streaming & torrenting
Since ProtonVPN has P2P support, torrenting was smooth. While testing streaming, I was able to access a few major Netflix libraries too.

🟡 Hide.me VPN - FREE VERSION 🟡
-----------------------------------------------------------
✔️ Security
Same encryption standards, a no-logs policy. Main difference - servers in 5 locations, that’s pretty nice.
✔️ Features
Just like ProtonVPN free version, it only has 1 simultaneous connection and just like AtlasVPN free plan, it has a monthly 10GB data cap.
⭐ Hide.me VPN PREMIUM VERSION ⭐
------------------------------------------------------------
✔️ Features
2,000+ servers in 46 countries - pretty cool. 10 simultaneous device connections - also cool. Plus, the premium version has more advanced features like Stealth Guard, VPN Cascading, or port forwarding.
✔️ Performance & Options
Speed tests were, truth be told, a bit all over the place. But overall speed reduction was around 40%.
