Almaty - 5 February - 1.500m speed skating short track competition among men took place at the Baluan Sholak Sport Palace.

1 Gold: Park Ji Won (South Korea) - 2:30.62
2 Silver: Kim Do Kyoum (South Korea) - 2:30.733
3 Bronze: Nurbergen Zhumagaziyev (Kazakhstan) - 2:31.287

Athletes from 9 countries competed in the short track speed skating competition at the Baluan Sholak Sport Palace.

During the qualification round, Korean athletes committed to a strategy of slow control. On first laps, they stuck to the end of the group, while in the middle of the race they dashed forward and kept leading. Before the semifinal, three athletes stumbled and, therefore, ended the race early. One of them was from Poland, another one from China and one from Kazakhstan.

In the semifinal, athletes tried to save the strength for the final laps where fierce competition started. At this stage, a Chinese athlete who competed for the third place unexpectedly tripped.

In the final round, the competition was tense. There was a chance that all the places in top three will be won by Korean athletes. However, one of them fell and gave way to Nurbergen Zhumagaziyev from Kazakhstan.

In the end, two Korean athletes took the first two places, while Zhumagaziyev from Kazakhstan came third.
