The Kai Ken was discovered in the mountains of Kai, right near Mt. Fuji. This rare dog, which is said to be one of Japan's purest and oldest dog breeds, is an expert hunter and very clever. Today, supporters of the breed put in a lot of effort to increase the small number of dogs, particularly in the United States and Japan.
In their home country, Kai Ken is also known as Kai Uni and Tora Inu. Their distinctive brindle, striped coats have also given them the nickname "Tiger Dog."
