Doin' The Seaside by The (Fabulous) Wailers

"Rock 'n roll band quells riot!" screams the headlines. Here's the story. On Saturday, September 1, 1962 during the Labor Day weekend, thousands of unruly teenagers would roam the streets in the resort town of Seaside, Oregon. As it turns out, The Wailers were to appear at The Bungalow (or roller rink) that evening, but the show was cancelled. The Seaside riots (as they came to be called) continued on into the next day. It was decided that The Wailers would play on the roof of the Turnaround Building to divert the attention of the throngs of teens. So on Sunday afternoon, The Wailers would perform one of the most historic concerts in Northwest history. They had a new record without a title, so "Doin' The Seaside" came to be. (This video has been reposted in the interest of historic accuracy.)
