Marie De Guise - Mother of Mary Stuart, Queen Of Scots: Marie De Guise was born on 22 November 1515 at Bar-le-Duc, Lorraine and died on 11 June 1560 at Edinburgh. She was Queen of Scots from 1538 until 1542 by her marriage to James V, and regent for her absent daughter Mary, queen of Scots from 1554 until 1560.

Thanks to the French troops that supported the Scottish government against internal and external enemies, she had de facto power over Scotland from 1547 onwards, although she was not formally given the post of regent until 1554. She was one of the main players in the Franco-Scottish alliance against England and the Scottish Protestants, and sought to preserve Scotland as a Catholic country for her absent daughter, a goal she failed to achieve, as she died in the midst of the conflict against the Scottish Protestants supported by England, allowing the Scottish Reformation to be implemented a year before her daughter's return.
