LIVE: US embassy in Ukraine closes over ‘significant air attack’ fears

The American embassy in Kyiv has temporarily closed after it said it had received information that an unusually large air attack on the Ukrainian capital was imminent.

“The US embassy in Kyiv had received specific information of a potential significant air attack on November 20. Out of an abundance of caution, the embassy will be closed, and embassy employees are being instructed to shelter in place,” the US Department of State Consular Affairs said in a statement.

“The US embassy recommends US citizens be prepared to immediately shelter in the event an air alert is announced.”

The alert follows President Biden’s decision to allow Ukraine to use US-provided long-range ATACMS against targets inside Russia. The first missiles struck an ammunition depot in the Bryansk region on Tuesday.
