I seem to have an issue with my new tank.
I haven’t put my betta in yet because I need to solve this issue with my filter. I know bettas don’t like surface water movement.

I can add more water but even then I feel like I’ll need to dampen the flow somehow and I don’t think the filter is adjustable. I don’t want to have to purchase a new one so if anyone has any safe suggestions for me it will be greatly appreciated. I’ve seen someone had cut a bottle to use the curve to change the flow direction but I’m not 100% comfortable with that since it’s plastic and not tested for long term use in an aquarium.

You can fill the tank up cut a water bottle in half or use a sponge i of which have no idea how to attach these but those are definitely ideas to try I’ve seen people in the axalotl community use The shower mesh things which I can’t think of rn try. I’m sure people will comment with the same suggestions and can give you more help.

I usually grab whatever coarse sponge is cheapest at the store to be honest. I chop it up and use it as media for my filters too. I have seen some coarse sponge that's black though and it'll match then.

This is my solution. It’s just one of those fake lotus flowers you can buy at Petco and a super heavy duty “twist tie” you can get at hardware stores. I just poked a hole in the flower and threaded the rubber twist tie through it. Hooked the end and viola! A water baffle.

But that’s neat I’ll probably try that, the blue thing I have on the end was a piece from the original filter that quit working (it was second hand). But I’ll try to find something like that and if it doesn’t work well for me I’ll probably try to find a good sponge for it I’m just a little worried sponges will collect bacteria and such.

Why are my rummynose tetras hiding?
They huddle in the corner for weeks now.
I see no aggression from the Betta, been in there for a year.

No changes in a year, except plants are growing.

20 gallon tall
0 ammonia
O nitrites
10 Nitrates

Tank two years old, one Betta 10 rummynose and shrimp. They are comfortable in large schools. Generally 20+. A 20g is too small for rummies. They get a solid 2 inches and need a ton of swimming room. I keep mine in a 6 foot tank and they school all day long.

Sooooo i have this 75 and obviously I has to be fully planted i wanted to do discus but where I'm at they start at $75 and quite frankly between getting ready to build my shop I can't justify having $500 in discus any recommendations gonna probly be a high-tech community set up.

Hey guys!! I'm wanting to get a personable fish for my 55. I was thinking Oscar but is a 55 to small? If so what do you suggest? This question is the most commonly asked in any fish group and I honestly don't know why do people not research fish to see the tank size they need or is that just me I'm not trying to be an asshole at all but I really get tired of seeing this question and it's always them trying to stuff it in a 55.

That person and you sent that and didn't even read it all the way thru ideally needs a 75 as an adult why get a 55 if it'll eventually outgrow it Oscars grow fast it's basic common sense if you have children you know as a baby the kid will fit newborn clothes but you buy bigger sizes because within the next month they won't fit newborn anymore right or wrong.

Flowerhorns get too big and really aggressive and so does Oscars so if you plan on only having one fish or maybe a breeding pair I wouldn't even consider neither honestly.

But never the less Oscars love to eat a lot and you will have an unhappy unhealthy Oscar I've never seen an Oscar that didn't get big really fast and if they don't eat properly and she has other fish it will eat the other fish.

A 55 is not suitable for an Oscar and a healthy lifestyle you're speaking on what-ifs like all Oscar don't get big if an Oscar doesn't get big or isn't growing properly that should tell you something.

I don't own an Oscar because of the fact I don't have the tank size and I'm not arguing lol for what I just know what I know and do research and almost everyone in my fish group has an Oscar I just don't like to tell people wrong knowing the growth of Oscar and how fast they will out grow a 55 gallon.

oscars get big and are very dirty fish; go with a few cichlids that are small to medium, lots of plants and caves. youre gonna love it.
