A manned mission to Mars has long captivated our collective imagination. Perhaps the most significant obstacle to achieving this mission is fueling a craft to and from Mars. Erika DeBenedictis offers some compelling theories on how we can make it happen.

Erika is a junior at the California Institute of Technology, majoring in Computer Science. Her research focuses on the Interplanetary Transit network, and how it can be used to lower fuel requirements for space missions. She was the winner of the Intel Science Talent Search in 2010 for research in the area.
