This past weekend, I took on the challenge of building a 16’ x 20’ Ground Level Floating Deck using the Bison Level Up Adjustable Deck Pedestal System, and the results speak for themselves! 🚀 Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of the process:

Step 1: Site Preparation

• Mark your layout with stakes and string.
• Excavate 1–2 inches and apply a gravel base for compaction.
• Compact the soil using a plate compactor and add 2” of #57 stone before compacting again for a sturdy base.

Step 2: Placing the Adjustable Deck Pedestals

• Assemble the Bison Level Up Adjustable Deck Pedestals following the instructions.
• Place them 16” on-center, ensuring a level surface using a torpedo level and 6’ level.

Step 3: Installing the Deck Joists

• Use pressure-treated lumber for your joists (e.g., 2”x6”). Crown each board upward and center the joists on the pedestals.
• Secure the joists with folding straps and screws, using framing angles for the end joists.

Step 4: Installing Rim Joists & Skirting

• Attach rim joists to the ends of the deck joists with clamps and screws.
• Add skirting boards if needed for a polished finish.

Step 5: Decking Boards Installation

• Install composite decking boards with hidden fasteners for a clean, modern look.

Step 6: Finishing Touches

• Add fascia boards around the perimeter for a professional appearance.
