I arrive in Zurich early this morning and my hotel room won't be ready until later in the afternoon. I was prepared for this and had done some research about going to Mt. Titlis by myself and arriving back in the early evening. Dropped my luggage off at the hotel. The Zurich train station was a short walk from my hotel so I headed out to the train station and bought a ticket to Engelberg, where you get the funicular and cable cars/gondolas up to Mt. Titlis. I had to change trains in Lucerne but the trains run often and only had about a 15 minute layover in Lucerne. It was easy.
There is a free bus at Engelberg that will take you to the ticket office for Mt. Titlis but it is not far and you can easily walk there from the train station. On the way back I never saw the bus so I walked back to the train station..
To get to the top of Mt. Titlis it takes a funicular and 3 cable cars. The rotating gondola they mention is the very last one and the shortest one. Glad I was somewhat early in the day since the clouds started obscuring the top when I was ready to come back down. I was able to have a good bit of sun above the clouds at the top. I was hungry so I wasted some time grabbing something to eat at the very nice restaurant at the top.
Then reversed my travel back to Zurich and walked back to the hotel.

By the way, back at Zurich train station I bought a Burger King Whopper, just the Whopper, no fries or drink, and it cost almost $10.00! Switzerland is expensive.
