➡️ My day began with a little intellectual stimulation, listening to a podcast featuring Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram (00:00:07). Before heading out, I fueled up for my hike by making a high-protein shake with protein powder, avocado, almonds, dates, and, most importantly, pumpkin seeds, which have a higher protein content than chicken breast (00:01:44).
➡️ My destination was the medieval town of Kirkel in Saarland (00:04:35). The journey there started at Saarbrücken East station (00:03:45), and along the way, I noticed many chestnut trees, where people collect and roast the nuts (00:03:02).
➡️ The main attraction in Kirkel is Burg Kirkel (Kirkel Castle), built in the 11th century (00:04:46). Though mostly ruins, the 40-meter-tall tower still stands, offering great views of the Kirkel Valley (00:05:26). I learned that the castle was built in phases from the 11th to the 14th century (00:09:09).
➡️ I also explored a nearby replica of a medieval village and an old blacksmith's workshop (00:05:54). While the castle itself isn't a huge sightseeing spot, it's a great historical viewpoint and a perfect break spot for those who enjoy the extensive hiking and biking trails in the surrounding hills and forests (00:10:12).
