Work on replacing this bridge is now well under way, and on a beautiful afternoon, I decided to stop by and record the changes since my last visit earlier this month. The build up of land on both sides to allow access to the North side of the bridge is now moving ahead, where much of the construction work will be completed with minimal disruption to train services. Also in place are two large cranes, one on the East shoreline, and one floating on the South side of the bridge. The final clip shows you the view from a HST heading Eastwards over the bridge in 2011, before work was started. It's worth comparing this video with the two links below to see the changes that have already happened.
