Dr Andrew Newton speaks about the health and healthcare in the Roman Empire and draws on his modern day experiences as from the medical field to talk about the legacy it has left on today's healthcare.

Andrew, a recently retired Emergency Medicine Consultant is a member of the Roman Military Research Society and does costumed historic interpretation as Marcus the Medic.  
 
Using a combination of archaeological evidence, ancient texts and published research literature Andrew will review our current understanding of health, disease and medical practice during the Roman Empire. 
 
Using his lifetime of clinical experience he will try to put our understanding of Roman Healthcare into context; including looking at both the origin of Roman clinical practice and also it’s legacy.
