Exercise 1
Excavate a trench 47m long x 0,9m wide x 1,4m deep.
35% of the soil are to be carted away by wheelbarrow to a point not exceeding 100m from
the excavations and spread, leveled and consolidated. The remainder of the soil are to be
carted away to a site approximately 7km from site.
Determine the total cost of the job.
Assumptions:
▪ Excavations done by hand
▪ Front-end loader 20m3 / hr capacity at R 450.00 / hr (all-in-cost)
▪ Total travel time 45minutes (excl. loading time) / truck
▪ Truck 5m3 capacity at R 360.00 / hr (all-in-cost)
▪ 20% Bulking
