East Tennessee received a historic gift on June 15, 1921. Barbara Adair McClung, widow of Calvin M. McClung, presented his incredible collection of rare books and genealogy files documenting the early history of the region to the public library in Knoxville. McClung's personal library was the start of the publicly accessible Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection. The collection originally occupied one room in Lawson McGhee Library. In the last century, it has grown to span a city block in Downtown Knoxville at the East Tennessee History Center.

The Calvin M. McClung Historical Collection is truly a gift that keeps giving, constantly adding culturally significant material to preserve and promote the history and heritage of Tennessee.
