Chemistry is an inseparable component of our everyday life. Be it in the digestion of the food we eat, or in the clothes we wear, or in the air we breathe: chemistry impacts us daily. The objective of the Learn to Love (L2L) Chemistry Club is to get students passionate about the fundamentals of chemistry and common everyday phenomena associated with chemistry. When students relate to these phenomena they will naturally appreciate the foundations of chemistry and develop an intrinsic liking for the subject matter. We will cover the following topics during the course: periodic table of elements, metals and polymers, food chemistry, analytical methods, crystallography, rare-earth materials and chemistry applications in clean energy. We will strive to make the lectures as entertaining and interactive as possible, with lots of videos, live demonstrations, games and activities and do-it-yourselves. We will address ongoing cutting-edge research areas in chemistry, and also have exciting hands-on activities such as demonstrating color-changing chemical reactions, making kaleidoscopes and using ultra-powerful neodymium magnets. After all, chemistry is all about having fun!
