Having a high credit score can give you a lot of financial benefits, but not a lot of people in the military know how to get started with increasing their credit score and maintaining it. That's why in this video, I'll go over everything you need to know about increasing your credit score while in the military. Make sure to watch until the end of the video because the last tip is the easiest way to raise your credit score.

When I was 19, I was able to achieve a credit score of 810, so the tips I share in this video are things I did to get such a high credit score. Because of this, I've been able to get the best interest rates on car loans, home loans, and much more.

Summary:

Tip #1: Start Building Your Credit History
I recommend starting off with a secured credit card if you're starting off from scratch. How this works is you put down a security deposit and that deposit becomes your credit limit.

Tip #2: Pay Your Credit Card In Full Every Month
Paying your credit card off on time is super important because it's 35% of your overall credit score. If you don't want to worry about this, set up autopay on your credit cards.

Tip #3: Keep Your Credit Utilization Low
You should not spend more than 30% of your total limit and it'll be much better if you keep it below 10%. Banks use this ratio to determine how financially responsible you are with your available credit.

Tip #4: Build More Lines Of Credit
This will help you increase your credit score and give you a higher credit utilization amount to spend every month.

Tip #5: Avoid Applying For New Credit Cards Too Quickly
If you apply for a credit card, your credit report will get a hard inquiry, which will temporarily lower your credit score. So, make sure you wait a few months (6 months if you want to be safe) before you apply for a new credit card.

Tip #6: Use Experian Boost
This is a free service that takes your phone/utility bills and adds them to your credit report. This has mixed reviews online, and I personally haven't tried this yet, so take this tip with a grain of salt.

Tip #7: Become An Authorized User
This is when a close family member or a friend who has good credit adds you onto their credit card. This is the easiest way to increase your credit score, but it won't do anything if they have bad credit or the same score as you.
