How to remove ticks from your dog naturally and safely is pretty simple when you know how.

Ticks lie in wait for your dog to come along and brush against them. The tick will then attach itself to the fur and make its way to the skin and bite into your dog, burying its head below the surface level to feast on your dogs blood.

This is usually around the head and neck area or front of chest but can include the groin area, between toes, in the ears and under the tail near the anus.

If ticks are not removed from your dog right away or within a couple of hours, they can engorge themselves, burying their heads into your dog’s skin.

Once a tick has fattened up on blood, it can be a little more tricky to remove.

With this in mind here's how to remove ticks from your dog.

I'll start with engorged ticks. Simply dip a Qtip or piece of stick into a bottle of pure neem oil and gently touch the tick leaving some residue covering the tick. The tick will now die within the next few hours.

How to remove a tick with tweezers?

Once dead, the tick will have loosened its grip. Gently remove the tick with tweezers gripping the fattened body and without bursting it open, gently pull out without twisting or jerking.

If the head is separated and still in your dogs skin, just apply a little neem to the spot to stop infection. What remains will be expelled by your dogs skin over a few days.

If your dog has ticks that are not yet engorged, grab your dogs skin under the tick so the tick sits proudly above the skin fold and pinch the tick with a good grip and twist in an anticlockwise direction while gently pulling away from your dog.

The tick should come out and then dispose of the tick.
