{TRANSCRIPT}: - My name is Dr. Charlotte Tudela, and I'm an internal medicine physician with Baptist Health. I chose internal medicine because I think it has the greatest depth of practice. We can do anything from inpatient care, outpatient care, subspecialties, and we really encompass all of the care that the patient requires. The most common conditions I treat are usually related to metabolic disorders, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and this is something I really enjoy taking care of. The most satisfying aspect of my profession is really when you get to help somebody through the most difficult times of their life. My patients come to me when they've lost relatives, lost loved ones, when they have a new diagnosis, and just being there to hold their hand and guide them through that process is something that you cannot put a price on. I find patients are often more engaged because they often have more information. They'll come to me with their labs that they've already seen online, or they've been able to read the reports of their diagnostics, rather than waiting for the doctor to call them, you know, with the results. And they have much more access to research, and they have a good idea of what treatment plan they want before they come to the office. My most memorable patient was when I was in residency, a young man who had come to the emergency room tired and in pain, and using cocaine to help keep him awake. And we found that he had severe hypothyroidism or a deficiency of thyroid hormones. And just being able to treat him and seeing his body transform and get back to full health within a few months was just breathtaking.
