The stereotype that Asians excel at math is supported by competition statistics. Cultural diligence and genetic factors may contribute to this success. However, despite their achievements in competitions, Asians are underrepresented in prestigious academic positions and awards, suggesting that creativity and originality, influenced by social and cultural factors, are also crucial. Hi everyone! I’m Elaine, and I am currently a senior highschool-er. Over my highschool years, I have spent lots of time interviewing over 30 mathematicians in North America, hoping to expand my podcast candidates to Asia in the future. I’m excited to share what I learned from my first hand-experience regarding the lens through math education. There are so many distinct ways of how mathematics could be taught despite that math is an international, unified language. In this talk I would like to share how math could be perceived from a different angle such as on matters from my individual take on math education , apart from our common stereotypical thoughts of mathematics associated with competitions or number calculations. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
