Kievan Rus' and the Early Reign of Yaroslav the Wise | The World 1000 Years Ago

Kievan Rus' is a medieval state which has often been left out of discussions concerning the Middle Ages. Many people know only a thing or two about it, if anything at all. And yet, this medieval Slavic realm has a truly fascinating history, both in-and-of-itself, but also for understanding current events amongst its successors. So let's discover what was going on there in the 1020s--1000 years ago.

Throughout this video, I make frequent use of illustrations from the Radzivilov Chronicle, also called the Königsberg Chronicle. This is an illustrated manuscript of a chronicle which adds on to the Russian Primary Chronicle.
