Although most naturalists are familiar with the unique annual North American migration to Mexico, very few have made the pilgrimage to see the monarch overwintering sites for themselves. Dr. Russell, long a monarch enthusiast, traveled to the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Preserve to record this seemingly mythical site with photos and video clips. While there, nightly lectures by the renowned lepidopterist, the late Professor Tom Emmel, revealed the complexity of the butterflies’ 2000 mile fall journey to be even more astonishing than most people can imagine.
