"I've been a General Conference delegate from Western Pennsylvania since 1988, serving six times as a full delegate and twice as an alternate. A lot has changed over that time, both culturally and within the church. And the discussion regarding LGBTQIA matters has also evolved over time."

"But the church's position regarding ordination, same gender marriage, and so forth has not changed. It's been pretty rigid. And from the standpoint that the standard has been in our book of discipline, the practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teachings."

"I don't know what will happen if those harmful words aren't taken out. This is the church, after all, I'm not expecting an immediate turnaround. But I'm also not expecting 200 years of just doing nothing. So, I am expecting steps in the right direction to have harmful language removed where the welcome and inclusion will someday make it so that everybody can be ordained. If you are called by God to be an ordained elder or deacon nobody should step in that way, no church, no institution should step in that way."
