WHAT IS PADA YATRA?:
The "Pada Yatra" pilgrimage is an annual event where devotees, mainly from the Tamil Hindu community, walk from Jaffna to Kataragama in Sri Lanka. This sacred journey, spanning hundreds of kilometers and taking several weeks, is revered by Hindus, Buddhists, and Muslims. Kataragama, believed to be the abode of the deity Murugan (Skanda or Kataragama Deviyo), attracts thousands of worshippers, especially during the Esala Festival.
