One of the most established names to join the Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy this season is Supercars race winner Ryan Wood, bringing a wealth of tin-top experience as he steps into open-wheel racing for the first time.

Ryan made a strong impression on debut at Hampton Downs, topping Friday practice before charging through to finish fourth in both of Saturday’s opening races. It was an encouraging start to the campaign, particularly given his limited experience without a roof over his head. Sunday proved more challenging, with incidents in both races hampering his progress, but the underlying pace remained clear.

Now just a few days later, Ryan turns his attention to Taupō International Motorsport Park, a circuit that holds special significance as the venue where he claimed his first Supercars podium. He picked up right where he left off, topping practice yesterday and making this the ideal moment to get to know him a little better.

In this video, Ryan reflects on his pathway into motorsport and what continues to drive him as he takes on a new challenge in open-wheel racing. He also touches on the motivation behind his move into the CTFROT and what he’s working toward as his career continues to evolve.

Ryan, along with the rest of the CTFROT field, will be back on track today in Taupō, lining up as part of the Giltrap Group Taupō Historic GP, with a 15-minute Qualifying session kicking off the action ahead of two 18-lap races this afternoon.
