PLD Memorial event continues to raise funds 10 years on….

Alpha Live are proud to be involved in the 10th anniversary of the Paul Lee-Davis Memorial event (known as the PLD) at Whilton Mill on Sunday 17th April.

The PLD, which is organised each time by the Aston Martin F1 duo of Dan Underhill and Matt Allnut, has been organised in memory of former kart racer Paul Lee-Davis who lost his battle with T-cell prolymphocytic leukaemia in 2011, aged 37. All funds raised from the event go to the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) so they can continue their work into this rare condition and over the past ten years, the teams have raised over £25,000.

'Paul was always at the events, even when he was ill and had told his fiancée he wouldn't race anymore.' said Dan, who first met Paul at a Club100 event in 2009.'He was motorsport mad and in his own element when on track. The best thing about Paul was that he was a really friendly guy and would welcome anyone new to the circuit. 'When I started the event, everyone wanted to be part of it. Paul was so fun-loving and full of life. We have so many new competitors these days but so many people are affected by cancer that everyone is keen to support this good cause'.

Previous winners include Formula E World Championship race winner and Red Bull F1 simulator driver Jake Dennis. As well as the kart event, which will include prizes and two weight classes in a typical sprint heat format, there will also be a charitable auction of some amazing prizes after the racing.

Paul's mum Janet Lee, from Norton Canes, said: “Even when Paul was ill, he talked of getting back on the track. He loved the camaraderie among fellow racers and made many friends due to his fun personality.”

ICR Supporter Events Manager Robin Plowman said: “So much of the progress we've made against cancer is only possible because of the support we receive from people like Dan. We're really grateful that he has continued to fundraise for us over the years. “Knowing that we can help people like Paul is what drives our scientists to work hard every day.
