May 3, 1987 - In search of his first Eastern Conference Finals appearance, Detroit Pistons point guard Isiah Thomas kicked off his team's second round series against the Atlanta Hawks in style, finishing with 30 points (11-of-18 shooting), 10 assists, and 2 steals in inching his team to a 112-111 Game 1 win.

With the game on the line, Thomas left his imprint all over the game's final minute. Starting with a clutch jumper over Doc Rivers with the shot clock winding down to put his team up three, Thomas left the door open a moment later after coughing up a turnover out of double team then committing a foul. That give and take set up Isiah's go-ahead free throw and a frantic Pistons stand on the defensive end to clinch the home court stealing win.
