In the summer of 2017, the Timken brought more than a dozen Italian masterworks to the public, dating from the 14th through the 17th centuries. These works from private collections, of which only a few had been on public display previously, were put injunction with the Timken's own "Madonna of Humility" triptych. These pieces, suggested by their small scale, would have been used by an individual or a family during prayer, creating an intimate connection between the viewer and the religious scenes they depict. The fact that many of these works are still held privately prove their lasting appeal as sources of inspiration and beauty.
