Clarence Avant, born in Climax, North Carolina in 1931 is truly an American original. From high school dropout to major catalyst in the worlds of music, film, and politics, Clarence Avant has aided the careers of countless artists and producers, executives and politicians. Through it all he has exhibited candor, authenticity, integrity, and loyalty. Race man of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, he has shown us the way to build careers and institutions.

Some of the people he’s helped include: Bill Withers, Lalo Schifrin, Jim Brown, Hank Aaron, Sixto Rodriguez, Andrew Young, Don Cornelius, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama (Avant got Obama a spot in prime time during the 2004 Democratic National Convention. The speech he gave there made him a national figure. The rest, they say, is history.
