STANCE WIDTH IN SHORT TURNS WIDE MEDIUM AND NARROW

I often demonstrate to guests the different stance widths at which one can ski. My personal preference is to ski with a narrower stance; my rationale for this is that a narrower stance gives me greater versatility when it comes to skiing all sorts of terrain, such as moguls, powder, and crud. While a wider stance may prevent me from skiing certain types of terrain, there is no terrain that I cannot ski with a narrow stance. However, if one's technique is limited to one particular stance, it can be a problem. The ability to switch up stances is a sign of a more experienced skier. With that being said, if a skier has not yet learned how to ski with a narrow stance while still maintaining good edge control, skiing around on flat skis with a narrow stance can also be an issue - although this is not necessarily an issue with the narrow stance itself, as a lack of edge angle can occur with a wide stance as well.
