Given Kant's fundamental conviction that human cognition must be suited to its own teleological purposes, why does reason run into all the illusions we have encountered in the Dialectic? The Appendix tackles this question, arguing for a regulative use of the ideas of pure reason in science and explaining in detail how to do this without falling into any traps.
