What are the different types of evidence?

Evidence comes in many forms. The most common categories are:

1) Testimonial evidence, meaning what eye witnesses say.

2) Documentary or demonstrative evidence, meaning records of any sort, photos, videos or audio recordings.

3) Digital evidence, including just about anything with an electronic signature such as e-mails, browser histories, ATM transaction logs, digital photos, spreadsheets, etc.

4) Scientific evidence, for instance DNA, fingerprints, gun shot residue.

Some forms of evidence are more powerful or reliable than others but they all share some things in common:

To be entered in a criminal case any piece of evidence must be both admissible and relevant.

All evidence must be fully disclosed prior to trial.

And all evidence is subject to being challenged by a criminal defense lawyer on any of a number of grounds.
