Even Flow

I say this a lot about more than one tune, but this is the first jam I ever learned

Which is technically not true, but it is true. When I was much younger we always had a guitar laying around, a good, nice Stratocaster copy. I was "a drummer" but I would get board, pick up the guitar, and just mess around. Oh look my brother has the Appetite for Destruction tab book. How does tab work again? I don't even know how to read music, it uses strings and fret numbers? Which string is high and which is low? And I learn the Mr Brownstone riff. Or look, And Justice For All... One, And Justice For All, Eye Of The Beholder.

But in the 90's, summer of 94 I'm not playing drums. I'm on a holiday, a drive to the east coast, I bought a magazine Guitar World Presents : Alternative Guitar with Kurt Cobain on the cover. To read. Which I did and I was look at the transcriptions (if I can Remember) Spin Doctors, Little Miss Can't Be Wrong Stone Temple Pilots, Plush. Nirvana, Heart Shaped Box. Pearl Jam, Even Flow. Smashing Pumpkins, Today

By Fall I had a guitar and I forced myself to learn as much of Even Flow as I could. I forced myself, I was going to learn it and I did and it hooked me. I learned some of every song in that may and then devoured ever Guitar World magazine for years. It was the first jam I got serious with. I'm not sure if it's right, this is one guitar in the transcription, this IS the way it was transcribed and by Andy Aledort no less, if I remember right.

Also, while I'm jamming this, I think about a woman I worked with who was a big Pearl Jam fan she has seen them so many times. I wouldn't see her for 2 weeks, and the first thing I d ask her "So how many PJ concerts have you seen lately. Ome time she comes into the warehouse, Tom Petty I won't back down is on the radio. She's standing there all happy. I asked her what's up? "This isy favorite Tom Petty song.... :)" oh yeah? Why? I like Even The Losers, personally. Because Pearl Jam did it. I later realized on my own... Her name is Anna. Now all Incan hear in that song is "Anna won't... Back down" which is funny. I know she won't. She would go to bat for us. But yeah, I don't think she took me serious when I told her I learned guitar from that s***. Like I was humoring her or something.
