Astronaut Lacey Veach said that “The place of navigators is Hawai‘i, Hawai‘i is the laboratory, Hawai‘i is the school, a model for the global island.” Now Hawai’i is one of the leaders with plans, research and data for meeting the goal of containing climate change in this generation.

Speakers:
Celeste Connors, Executive Director, Hawai'i Green Growth Local2030 Hub, has twenty years of experience working at the intersection of economic, environment, energy, and international development policy. She previously served as the Director for Environment and Climate Change at the National Security Council and National Economic Council, where she helped shape climate and energy policies, including Sustainable Development Goals.

Matthew Gonser serves as the City and County of Honolulu Chief Resilience Officer and Executive Director of the City’s Office of Climate Change, Sustainability and Resiliency. He joined the City and the Resilience Office in October 2017 and previously served as Coastal and Water Program Manager.

Anukriti Hittle staffs the state of Hawai'i’s Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission, and is Adjunct Fellow at the East-West Center. Prior to that she was a climate change researcher with the World Resources Institute, an activist at Greenpeace, and an instructor at Washington University in St Louis, where she co-led the Research Institutions' observer delegation for COPs 20,21 and 22.

Moderator:
Makena Coffman is the Director for the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Institute for Sustainability and Resilience. She is a Professor of Urban and Regional Planning and Research Fellow with the University of Hawaiʻi Economic Research Organization, and Chair of the City & County of Honolulu Climate Change Commission. Her research interests include climate change, energy policy and alternative transportation strategies.i
