🇫🇷 MONTFORT-L'AMAURY, the Most Beautiful Village of Les Yvelines, Amazing Walking Tour [4K/60fps]

The town of Montfort-l'Amaury, located 38 km west of Paris and 18 km north of Rambouillet, is located south of the plain that bears its name, in a hillside area north of the forest massif of Rambouillet, Yvelines department.
Attested in the forms Mons Fortis in 999, Montfortis, Moriacum, Montifors, Montfort-en-Iveline, Montfort-le-Brutus in 1793, then Montfort-l'Amaury.
A high place is intended as a defensive site. Feudals built on mountains. There was in the eleventh century, on a hill, a fortified residence designated Mons fortis in medieval Latin, that is to say Monfort, whose owners often bore the name of Amaury: it is in memory of Amaury I, second Lord Montfort, that the place was later called: Montfort-l'Amaury.
The town has some historical monuments:
- The fortified castle of Montfort: built in the 12th century, destroyed during the Hundred Years War, only the ruins of the keep remain, called the Anne-de-Bretagne tower, which was later built for Anne de Bretagne.
- Saint-Pierre church: Church of the 15th and 16th centuries, of an impressive and rare size for a small city, rebuilt by Anne of Brittany in 1491, in place of a medieval church of the 11th century built by Amaury I of Montfort. André de Foix, Lord of Montfort from 1524 to 1540, amplified the developments undertaken during the last Breton reign.
- The 15th and 16th century cemetery, surrounded by galleries, similar to those of a cloister, having served as mass graves for the burial of bodies removed from the old cemetery on the site of the church. The cloister and the door are classified historical monument.
- Maurice Ravel's house, the Belvedere, is a 20th century residence located at the foot of the ruins of the donjon and overlooking the south of the city. Maurice Ravel lived there from 1921 until his death in Paris in 1937.
- The ramparts of the 11th and 12th centuries, of which only a few vestiges remain, and the Bardoul gate.
