What Happened to the Old Vietnamese Flag?

Vietnam has had several flags throughout its history, most of which have been yellow and red. The story is one of Viet royal dynasties, the French colonial era and the long shadow of the Vietnam War. The Viet Minh, and the Viet Cong, and the vexillological traditions of global Communism all play a part in the story.
