Exploring Nuraghe Albucciu | Inside and Out | Nuragic Civilization Walking Tour

Join me as we explore the fascinating Nuraghe Albucciu, an ancient structure located on the edge of a vast fertile plain in Sardinia. This unique Nuraghe, unlike the classic 'tholos' towers of the Nuragic civilization, was built directly onto a granite outcrop, giving it a distinct layout and design.

As we walk around and inside the monument, we’ll take a closer look at:

The Entrance: Set into the rectilinear façade, the entrance features eight protruding corsels that once supported a wooden balustrade.

Ground Floor: Here, we’ll explore a deep storeroom and a small chamber with a unique 'truncated tholos' roof—a variation of the traditional Nuragic architectural style.

Upper Floor: On the upper level, we’ll see a series of rooms and a semicircular outdoor space that provides access to a large habitable room.

Importantly, the artifacts found here provide evidence of trade between Sardinia and the wider Mediterranean, highlighting the strategic and economic importance of Nuraghe Albucciu.

Dating back to between 1400 BC and 650 BC, the Bronze and Iron Ages, Nuraghe Albucciu served as a political and economic hub for the surrounding settlements, controlling resources and trade in the region.
