🇵🇭 On August 27, 2025, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of the Philippines appeared before the House Committee on Appropriations to request a budget increase aimed at strengthening its investment promotion efforts.

Here are the key highlights from that hearing:

💼 Budget Proposal
DTI requested an additional ₱500 million, raising the investment promotion budget from ₱1 billion to ₱1.5 billion.

The funds would support marketing initiatives to attract foreign investors, especially in light of rising competition across Southeast Asia.

📈 Investment Goals
Trade Secretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque emphasized the goal of reaching ₱1 trillion in foreign investments.

As of mid-2025, the Board of Investments (BoI) had already approved ₱382.24 billion, about 22% of the full-year target of ₱1.75 trillion.

🌍 Global Outreach
The proposed budget would fund:

Foreign trade attaché missions

Overseas business trips

Advertising campaigns to position the Philippines as a prime investment destination

📦 Export Promotion
DTI also sought ₱931.9 million for export and investment promotion programs, a 3.3% increase from the previous year.

The aim is to help Filipino businesses expand globally, especially amid shifting trade dynamics and new tariffs from the U.S.
