Cheong Jun Hoong became the Malaysia's first diving World Champion after winning the 10m platform individual event in World Aquatic Championship Budapest 2017.

Jun Hoong scored a dramatic upset victory over the both Chinese 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist Ren Qian, Olympic Silver Medalist Si Yajie, as well as the Canadian Olympic Bronze Medalist Meghan Benfeito and also the defending World Champion North Korean Kim Kuk-hyang.
