I learned this exercise in 2010 (I think) from Jon Faddis. I did not study with Jon, really. I had just the one lesson, wherein I learned this exercise, and I'm probably doing it a bit differently now. I've since seen others use it online, and thought I would post my own exposition on it.
On this video I was using my normal lead piece. I sometimes play this exercise on other gear, all the way from a huge Schilke 20d2d, to a tiny lead mouthpiece, to C trumpet, to flugelhorn, etc. The same principles apply.
