What is Ajing Fishing?

Ajing is a fishing style used to catch horse mackerel using jigheads and soft plastics. This technique originated in Japan and the craze has spread across South East Asia and some European counties. This form of fishing requires a specialized ultralight tackle that helps the angler feel every bite and nibble.

Since we are in the Philippines and horse mackerels are not that common, we use the Ajing way to fish for more common fishes in our terrain.

Target Fish: Trevally, Queen Fish, Emperor Fish, Snappers, Wrasse, and a lot more!

Why is ajing popular?

It is a very technical and challenging game! If you fish for bragging rights, this isn't probably the game for you; but if you fish for recreation, relaxation and you want to improve your technique, then you found yourself the right game. This game requires very light lines and tackle in effect making you a more technical angler. You would learn when to set hooks on small fishes, you would learn about controlling the fish, and you would learn a lot from mistakes you make when fighting a big fish on such small tackle. Having such light tackle makes the experience unbeatable. You would enjoy the fight even with smaller fish. Yes you would get a lot of snags, but that's part of the game!

Another reason why it's getting popular is it is pretty much cheap. Yes, there are expensive lines, jigheads, and soft plastics; but there are always alternatives you can get from Lazada or Shopee.

We'll put a guide of the usual tackle available for Ajing. Again, this is a guide not really a requirement. You have a 10kg drag reel? Use it. Just learn how to properly set the drag so you don't lose the fish. Have a Light rod? Use it. So long as your line balances with the rod's rating. Since you are using jigheads and soft plastics, having lower line rating helps with the sensitivity so we'd really suggest you at least use low rated lines (Polyester, Mono, Flourocarbon, PE, and Ester works). All types of line have advantaged and disadvantages. Go research.

Reel: Any Light Game Reel 1000-2000 (Consider using Shallow Spools)
Line: PE0.2-0.4 | 1-4lb

Jig Heads: 0.3-3.5 grams
