Here's the inside scoop on an American classic: "Green Onions" by Booker T. & The MGs, featuring one of my all-time favorites on guitar: Steve Cropper. Definitely download the original so you can PLAY ALONG with it after you watch this video! So here's what you'll find in this video: how to play the staccato Telecaster "stabs" after the organ intro and the "bass line" played by Steve Cropper as he syncs up with bass player Lewis Steinberg. (Duck Dunn was off fishing that day!) The only thing missing from this play-along video is the sweet guitar solo Cropper plays later in the tune. Maybe we'll cover that in a future video ! (Gotta love the reverb in the second half of the solo. You can tell I'm a big fan. Thanks Mr. Cropper.) Take a minute and research how this tune was a VERY unlikely hit single, being a B-side that was recorded during a lull in a recording session. *I highly recommend doing the "stabs" with upstrokes and playing the bass line with the downstrokes and upstroke that I indicate in the video.*
