Hi everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Yakima SkyBox NX 16 rooftop box here at etrailer. So this is going to be a 16 cubic foot rooftop box that's kind of a middle of the road size great for some sedans and SUVs and it's going to be a really versatile one too. When it comes to rooftop boxes they're great for a number of things whether you go for the ski and snowboard side of things or camping gear, luggage, that sort of thing. And depending on the shape of the box they might lend themselves better to those activities where a low profile box would lend itself a lot better to skis and snowboards because you don't need all that height. A taller box like this can be used for a wide range of those things.

This is still plenty long to carry some skis and snowboards but it's also got the height to support some bags, luggage things like that. Now let's check out the inside of the box. You're gonna get two keys that come with the box that can be used to unlock either side because it is a dual opening box. Twist that key to the left and release the metal handle to open up the lid. It pops up relatively easily here.

Some boxes can be a bit tricky whenever you're pushing that lid up and then it'll hold itself open. Inside, you can see we've got some pretty large duffel bags, a sleeping bag, and we've got two pairs of skis and then a snowboard with its bindings behind those. Might be a little bit hard to see out here in the sunlight right now but that's the main thing I'm trying to highlight with this box is the fact that you can have those things on the bottom but still stack some bags on top of it. Certain boxes, if they're too short and low profile you have to choose between one or the other. With this, you can have both and kind of stack things up a little bit more, and with this there's still plenty of room to pack smaller bags around the edges, the front and the back.

Now as far as some more specific dimensions the longest pair of skis that we have in here is 160 centimeters and we've got that one kind of off to the edge here. We've got a little bit of room at the back end of the box where we could get some longer skis but because of the taper on the edges realistically you're probably gonna be limited to about 175 centimeters if you're going dead center. Now one thing I do wanna point out with the box and its overall ease of use is the pole cord. The 4Runner is obviously a very tall vehicle and a lot of roof boxes don't include something like this but I always like to see it because it just helps you reach the lid to bring it down and close it so you don't have to climb up inside your vehicle to get it locked back up. So if that's something that you're looking for, just know that not every box out there has it, but this one does.

Now to give some dimensions on the box itself exterior dimensions are 75 and a half inches long, 35 inches wide and 16 inches tall. Now again, those are the exterior dimensions not necessarily the usable space on the inside. Generally you can subtract probably two to three inches off of each of those measurements to get a rough internal estimation, but just know that it's not going to be perfectly even in square throughout. With the height of the box here it tapers off at the front end quite a bit so if you're relying on that height all throughout the box you're not gonna get it. So just keep that in mind when you are picking this out and finding out if your things are gonna fit inside of it that there are those limitations because of the shape. As far as how this fits on your vehicle, it'll work with crossbar spreads anywhere from 24 to 36 inches. The 4Runner raised rail roof rack here can be adjusted really anywhere. So if you have a fixed point roof rack make sure that it fits within those dimensions. It's fairly common for most all roof racks though so you should be pretty good. And depending on your setup you should be able to slide it around and get clearance with the back hatch. The back end of the box does taper in a little bit to give you some extra clearance there. And we've got plenty of room on our vehicle today. The clamps can be slid around in some channels to accommodate for those different crossbar spreads but also shift the whole box forward or backward on the roof to get the right positioning with your hatch. And then the dual side opening works just like it did on the other side, uses the same keys so you don't have to worry about keeping a separate one on your key ring and it's just as easy to ope
