In this video, we will discuss how to easily extend your network when it's too far for copper cabling using a preterminated fiber optic assembly and a pair of media converters.
If the distance of your run is over 250 feet, we recommend using a fiber optic assembly. All our fiber assemblies are made in the USA at the time of you order to your custom distance requirements, and are preconnectorized so the item you receive is ready for a plug and play installation. But, you will have to convert your fiber signal back to copper. We will be using two media converters, one on each end, to make this happen.

Once you have installed the fiber, all you have to do is plug the connectors directly into the media converter. But with fiber, maintaining proper polarity is key. There is a send and a receive. So, if the strands are numbered one and two, on one end you will plug in as 1 - 2. Then we'll have an ethernet patch cable that will go from our media converter to the switch

On the opposite end of our run, we're going to plug the back end of the assembly into media converter. On this end, we are going to flip the polarity. So here were going to plug it is as 2 - 1. Then run an ethernet patch cable to your other switch to liven up your extended network.
